Full Moon Integrative Therapies presents: Women in Analytical Psychology
This
Monday at 7 pm, week 2 of Full Moon's film series about Women in Analytical
Psychology continues with a screening of Richard Adams' (author of Watership
Down) interview with the analyst Vera von der Heydt (1899-1996).
Britain's Guild
of Pastoral Psychology lecture series is named in her honor of
Baroness
von der Heydt. She was raised in Berlin and met Jung in 1922. Her own analysis
began with John Layard, a gifted figure in the early days of Analytical
Psychology. In time she traveled to Zurich to work directly with Jung and
continued to consult with him periodically until his death. She was on the
staff of the Davidson Clinic (now Wellspring)
and was Chairman of the Analytical Psychology Club of London. In addition to her
practice as an analyst, Vera von der Heydt was active in the training of
analysts and in the presentation of Jung’s work to a wide public audience
through radio and television. In 1976 she published Prospects for the Soul:
Soundings in Jungian Psychology.
In
contrast to our other films, Baroness von der Heydt is interview by Richard Adams, author of the novel Watership Down.
The filming took place in the London home of Mr. Adams, in December of 1978.
Baroness von der Heydt is the author of articles such as:
"'[W]e must dig down to the primitive in us, for only out of the conflict between civilized man and the barbarian will there come what we need -- a new experience of God'." (Jung)
"Jung's insistence on experience has made people diffident; they feel as if again something is expected from them which they cannot do. They do not realise that it is they themselves who shut doors because they have notions and expectations of what a religious experience should be like: often it is not recognized, it seems too insignificant; because of our negative attitude to ourselves. We cannot believe that we carry the God-image within ourselves." (Jung and Religion, p. 50.)
This
film will be presented tomorrow at 7 pm
Kyle
Williams will be facilitating an informal discussion following each film for
those interested in participating.
Kyle Lee Williams, M.A., LMHCA is a Jungian therapist in private practice, a
Jungian analyst in training with the C.G. Jung Study Center of Southern
California, and an adjunct professor of religion and psychology at Antioch
University. She has lectured at the C. G. Jung Societies in Seattle and
Portland, for the International Association for Jungian Studies (IAJS), and at
Jungian Societies internationally.
The Women in Analytical Psychology series is a twice a month exploration through documentary film of the achievements of women in the field of Analytical Psychology as well as the liberating vision Analytical Psychology holds for women. This series of 7 films will largely consist of selections from the Remembering Jung series produced by the Los Angeles Jung Society. Not for women only, these seldom seen documentaries also offer the opportunity to understand Jung through the eyes of people who knew him personally.
