(Note that any of the 7 films in the Woman and Analytical Psychology film series can be seen independently from the others. There is no sequence or order. Come anytime!)
Dancing in the
Flames
is a brilliant and intimate documentary into the life of Jungian Analyst Marion
Woodman who is known for her ground breaking work as a teacher and author
on feminine psychology
and
addiction. By integrating the animation of Academy Award winner Faith
Hubley, we are taken into a metaphoric representation of the unconscious
imagery that Marion discusses so passionately, and under the direction of Adam
Greydon Reid, the film’s 83 minutes captivates the viewer’s attention into one
person’s journey into the soul.
Marion Woodman is a writer, international teacher, workshop leader, and
Jungian analyst. With over half a million books in print, she is one of the
most widely read authors on analytical and feminine psychology
of our time. A graduate of the C. G. Jung Institute of Zurich, Ms. Woodman is
the author of Addiction to Perfection, The Owl Was a Baker’s Daughter, The
Pregnant Virgin, The Ravaged Bridegroom, and is co-author of Coming Home
to Myself (with Jill Mellick), The Maiden King (with Robert Bly) and
Dancing in the Flames (with Elinor Dickson).
Faith Hubley is an Oscar winning animator. Among her other works she created
the animated short "Carousel."
Based on the writings of psychoanalyst Erik Erikson "Carousel"
invites the viewer along on eight rides through the different stages of life.
The film reflects the inner feelings and conflicting emotions experienced
during each stage of personality development.
Kyle
Williams will be facilitating an informal discussion following each film for
those interested in participating.
Kyle Lee Williams, M.A., LMHCA is a Jungian therapist in private practice, a
Jungian analyst in training with the C.G. Jung Study Center of Southern
California, and an adjunct professor of religion and psychology at Antioch
University. She has lectured at the C. G. Jung Societies in Seattle and
Portland, for the International Association for Jungian Studies (IAJS), and at
Jungian Societies internationally.
The
Women in Analytical Psychology series is a twice a month exploration
through documentary film of the achievements of women in the field of
Analytical Psychology as well as the liberating vision Analytical Psychology
holds for women. This series of 7 films will largely consist of selections from
the Remembering Jung series produced by the Los Angeles Jung
Society. Not for women only, these seldom seen documentaries also offer the
opportunity to understand Jung through the eyes of people who knew him personally.
